Comox Valley RCMP is reminding the public to be careful with imitation firearms after a police incident on the weekend in Courtenay.
Police were called out to the 2100 block of Tull Avenue Saturday evening after someone reported seeing a man with a gun at a residence. Constable Rob Gardner says the Emergency Response Team, police dog service and negotiator were also called in.
“Investigators learned the house was occupied by two males. One male exited the residence upon police request. It was soon determined he was not involved in the incident and he was released. A 25 year old male was also arrested and imitation firearms were located and seized. The male was released from custody the following day and the investigation remains on-going.”
Gardner is reminding residents that all firearms calls must be treated as if a real weapon is involved.
He also notes that while carrying a replica firearm is not a illegal, criminal charges can be filed if they are used to damage property, threaten, intimidate or assault someone.
