Invasive species continue to run rampant all across Vancouver Island.
Don Hare with the Coastal Invasive Species Committee says Poison Hemlock seems to be making its way up to the North Island from down in Victoria. “This plant is one of these poisonous ones and grows 12-14 feet high with a huge flower-head on it.”
Hare says it has “millions of these little seeds that float around”, creating a risk for residents to breath it in. He notes the Committee is working hard to combat the invasive species.
He says to be aware of your surroundings, especially if you’re walking through trails and nature paths, and to report sightings of species like Poison Hemlock to the Committee.
