COURTENAY, B.C- Skiers and snowboarders will have access to more runs at Mount Washington in 2018.
According to a news release issued by the resort on Thursday afternoon, 400 acres of adventure ski terrain are being opened up after a snowy start to the year.
The stretch is called “The Outback” and only opens once the right snowpack levels are in place, due to obstacles such as cliff bands, trees, and rocks.
“The snowpack is at a point now that we can start running the Boomerang chairlift and grooming the run-outs to make the area ready for our guests,” said George Trousdell, Director of Mountain Operations.
“It’s nice to have this area open because Mount Washington has a lot of good skiers and riders among our clientele who enjoy the steep and deep terrain of the Outback.”
The area stretches from the ridge at Little Mount Washington to McKay Lake, with an additional 40 acres in the North Bowl.
In addition to the new runs, the resort also announced the continuation of their “Discovery Days” package, which offers discounted lessons and equipment rentals for first-time snowboarders and skiers.
The mountain is now fully open in the alpine areas. More than 30 kilometres of Nordic and 18 kilometres of snowshoe trails are also running.
