CUMBERLAND, B.C. – The Village of Cumberland and the United Riders of Cumberland Association have received a boost from the provincial government.
Through the BC Rural Dividend Program, the village is receiving $29,620. That funding will be used to build a loop trail through the site of the No. 1 Japanese Town.
12 educational signs will be installed along the route.
The United Riders of Cumberland will be able to finish a detailed layout and construct a four-kilometre destination climbing non-motorized trail. This will allow users to get to the upper part of the Cumberland-Western trail network, while avoiding the use of resource roads.
The government is providing $79,300 for that project.
“Both are valuable infrastructure,” said BC’s Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, Doug Donaldson.
“When I was at the Union of BC Municipalities meeting last September, all the communities that met with me, communities under 5000 who are especially recipients of these kind of grants said that this is a great system (the BC Rural Dividend Program), so we’re looking forward to continuing it.”
Donaldson said the rural dividend is in the BC budget for the next three years.
Further details on the program can be found through the provincial government’s website.
