SD71 presents Inquiry Fair on Wednesday

COURTENAY, B.C. – School District 71 is hosting its third annual Inquiry Fair on Wednesday.

Over 400 students from 10 Comox Valley schools will gather at Lake Trail Middle School to share their creativity and talents.

The fair is split into two sections to allow participating students from the district to rotate through. Each segment will start with an opening ceremony. The first will take place at 9:30 a.m., while the second will take place at 12:30 p.m.

Previous fair topics have ranged from global warming to international collaboration and advocacy. A release from the district states that many of the students showcase their projects visually, with poster boards, while some use interpretive dance, theatre, hands-on displays, props or group presentations.

“What never ceases to amaze me is this look of joy and fascination on the faces of the adults that join us for the day,” said Andrew Ferneyhough, Intermediate Teacher with NIDES Fine Arts eCademy and event organizer in a release.

“It’s one thing to present to their peers, but they simply light up when presenting to community members.”

The fairs are organized each year by a committee represented by teachers who commonly use inquiry as a tool for learning in their classes.

Doors are open to the public to view the presentations. The event is Wednesday, April 25 from 9:30 to 2:30 at Lake Trail Middle School in Courtenay.
