Heat record falls in Comox Valley

COMOX VALLEY, B.C. – How hot is it this week in the Comox Valley?

So hot, a temperature record that had stood for 94 years fell by the wayside.

On Tuesday, it hit 32.7 C in the Courtenay-Comox area. It was the lone temperature record set in B.C. that day.

Tuesday’s temperature beats the former record for July 24 by a full degree.

The previous record of 31.7 C was set in 1924.

A heat warning remains in effect as a ridge of high pressure continues to anchor itself in the region.

According to the Environment Canada’s seven-day forecast, temperatures are expected to reach 31 C tonight and Friday and 29 C Saturday and Sunday before cooling slightly into next week.

The forecast calls for highs of 27 C next Monday, 25 C on Tuesday, and 24 C with a mix of sun and cloud.
