Island Corridor Foundation coming out of the woodwork

The Island Corridor Foundation wants to update the public on what it’s been up to.

To that end, the organization is hosting a series of town hall style meetings in November in Island Communities.

CEO Larry Stevenson said the plan is to have an informal discussion with people to bring them up to speed.

“Ultimately, I think the only way this railway ever gets built is with community support. I don’t think the province is ready to move forward unless they know that the people of the communities are behind it and that everybody wants to move forward with this railroad. Our goal here is provide all the reasons for the premier and his staff to say yes.”

He said he’s met with Premier John Horgan and understands there’s a lot of frustration out there.

“He’s frustrated because he’s not seeing any movement and Mr. Horgan has been a supporter of rail for a number of years and he doesn’t understand why we don’t have rail on the Island today. We’ve had meetings with the premier, we’ve talked about rail, he’s asked us to go back and look at it and come up with some plans that would work for the Island.”

The first meeting is in the Cowichan Valley this Wednesday at the Ramada beginning at 7.

There’s a meeting scheduled for Nanaimo on November 19th at the Coast Bastion Hotel and one in Parksville at the Beach Club Resort on the 22nd and both of those start at 7.

The meeting in Courtenay goes at the Best Western on November 13th. It starts at 7.
