COURTENAY, B.C. – The Comox Valley Food Bank needs your help.
The local charitable organization collects and distributes food to the less fortunate across the Comox Valley.
President Jeff Hampton said they’re always looking for donations, but operations get particularly busy during the winter months.
“We can always use non-perishables and perishables. We’ve upgraded our freezers and fridges so we can handle perishable foods as well as non-perishables. We can always use cash, that helps us a lot to buy (items),” he said.
He noted that a lot of donations have come in over the past few weeks, but they can “always use more”.
“There’s a lot of people out in the Valley that are in need of food this time of year,” Hampton said.
Residents can drop food items off in person at the food bank, located 1491 McPhee Avenue in Courtenay. The bank also has a collection program.
“We do pick-ups, and we’re open up until Christmas until three o’clock in the afternoon to take donations. We are open for people wishing to stop by with a donation,” Hampton said.
He added that some of the items they’re looking for are sugar, coffee and personal hygiene products like toothpaste, shampoo and hairbrushes.
STUFF THE TRUCK
From December 3rd to December 7th, 98.9 The Goat FM is teaming up with the Comox Valley Food Bank, Clarke’s Household Moving and Thrifty Foods in Courtenay for the Stuff the Truck event.
A Clarke’s company truck will be parked outside the Cliffe Avenue Thrifty Foods.
The goal is to fill the truck with as many food item donations as possible, to go towards the food bank.
Staff from 98.9 The Goat FM will be on hand collecting donations.
“We’re gonna have some of our (food bank) volunteers on site. It promises to be a good week as long as the rain holds off,” Hampton said.
Stuff the Truck takes place from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day between December 3rd and December 7th.
