COURTENAY, B.C. – The current Member of Parliament for Courtenay-Alberni will once again fly the NDP flag when the federal election rolls around in October.
Gord Johns was acclaimed as the New Democratic Party’s candidate at a meeting of almost 100 supporters on Sunday.
The 2019 federal election is expected to be called for October 19th, according to a notice from the NDP.
“We have had some enormous successes on important issues but we still have a lot of work to do”, Johns told his supporters at Sunday’s event.
“We don’t have to look far to see how much people are struggling in our country and around the world, the environmental challenges that we are facing are immense and there is inequality in our communities.”
According to the NDP release, Johns told the crowd that housing, universal pharma-care and dental care, creating good paying jobs and climate change are critical priorities.
The motion to acclaim Johns as the party’s candidate was moved by NDP member Eva Hilborn.
Port Alberni’s Marlene Dietrich seconded the motion, which was also seconded by Tofino’s Eileen Floody, the Comox Valley’s Mary Pat Wiley and Oceanside’s Elaine Watson.
