Courtenay, B.C – The best of the best will battle this May
Some of the best firefighter athletes from across British Columbia and Canada will be in the Comox Valley this summer for the BC Regional FireFit Championships.
The Courtenay Fire Department will be hosting the event on Saturday May 11 and Sunday May 12.
The championship, which is also known as “the toughest two minutes in sports”, will take place in the Superstore Parking Lot, located at 757 Ryan Road, and the public is encouraged to come watch, and cheer on those competing. FireFit is a competition based on firefighting tasks commonly performed in emergency situations and the competitors will range from seasoned veterans to first time rookies.
Don Bardonnex, Courtenay’s Fire Chief, said the FireFit event is positive for all involved and that the crews are excited as well.
“It’s a great motivator for the crews and local departments”
He added that he’s unsure if Comox or Cumberland are participating in the event. As for his hopes for the Courtenay department, he said either way “You don’t shoot for the bottom”.
