COURTENAY B.C-More than twelve community mailboxes in Comox and Courtenay were broken into last night.
The Comox Valley RCMP is warning those who may have had their mailboxes broken into that there is a possibility of identity theft. The thieves could use what was in the mailboxes to contact the victims banks or credit card companies.
Mailboxes along Sand Pines Crescent, Brent Road, Simon Crescent, and Atlas Road were a few of the ones hit.
“It is important to check your mail every day, that way, if thieves break in overnight they’ll come up with nothing” said Constable Monika Terragni, Comox Valley RCMP Media Relations Officer.
“If you are going away, ensure someone else is available to collect your mail or contact Canada Post to have your mail held.”
The Integrated Forensic Identification Section will be helping the investigation. They will continue to look into the mailboxes and other local neighbourhoods. It is important to call police if you see any suspicious behavior in your neighbourhood.
Anyone with information about this mail theft is asked to call the Comox Valley RCMP at (250) 338-1321. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Comox Valley Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477) or online at comoxvalleycrimestoppers. bc.ca.
