COURTENAY, B.C- The lands holding Stotan Falls won’t be open to the public anytime soon.
The lands are owned by 3L Developments Inc, who took the Comox Valley Regional District to court last fall over the district’s decision to deny an application from the company seeking to change the growth plan for the area.
The company is looking to develop lands located close to the falls, a popular swimming spot for locals and visitors along the Puntledge River.
In January, the company announced a closure of all their lands near Courtenay, with security guards placed near the road entrances to the area.
The company and the district were in court in Vancouver from March 12th to March 15th, and are currently waiting on a verdict. Details on their legal filings can be found here:
According to the district and to the online court record system for British Columbia, the fate of the case is now resting with the judge.
The MyComoxValleyNow.com newsroom reached out to the company on Friday about the verdict, and the possibility of re-opening the lands before it comes down. According to 3L project manager Kabel Atwall, there are no plans to re-open the area, or put up toll access a second time.
He also indicated that the current status of access to the land wouldn’t change, regardless of the verdict being in the company’s favour or not. They’ll wait to see what the verdict is, before considering re-applying to the CVRD.
Security arrangements will stay the same along the company’s land, and Atwall stated that they are looking at fencing.
