Bike cop leaves the Valley, detains woman in distress in Tofino

COMOX VALLEY, BC – Reserve Constable Andrew Waddell has left the Valley.

The bike cop is back in Tofino, where he was stationed before coming to the Comox Valley. He was known as the “Tofino Bike Cop” from 2011 to 2014.

Waddell was known in and around the Valley area for high profile arrests, some of which garnered public backlash.

Now, he is making headlines again, after he detained a woman in distress in Tofino.

Waddell was videotaped detaining a woman in distress on Thursday at a Co-op gas station in Tofino, according to a report from the Westerly News.

Tofino RCMP are defending Reserve Const. Waddell, saying that he acted lawfully and within his authority.

According to the Westerly, the woman was in distress but refused to seek medical attention voluntarily. Waddell placed her on the ground to avoid injury to herself.

Cpl. Stu Hert of the detachment said Waddell will be in a general duty frontline response role, filling in for off-duty officers, according to the Westerly.
