Project Watershed and the Estuary Working Group have a new goal…to purchase and restore the old Field Sawmill site beside the 17th Street bridge. The land is currently up for sale and the group is looking for city and community support. Project spokesperson Jennifer Sutherst explains why it’s such an important mission.
Sutherst adds that it would not just be a great move for the animal habitat in the area, but for the community in general.
Courtenay Mayor Larry Jangula thinks it’s a great idea to rejuvinate the space beside the 17th Street bridge, but he has his concerns.
The land is currently owned by International Forest Products, and is up for sale with Colliers International.
