CAMPBELL RIVER, BC – No fires allowed. That includes campfires and beach fires.
Due to the hot and dry conditions, the City of Campbell River is implementing a total fire ban which will come into effect at noon on Friday.
The ban applies to recreational fires, including beach fires and campfires on private lands within city limits.
The city’s fire chief Thomas Doherty says the fire risk is too high.
“We appreciate everyone’s assistance in doing their part to prevent fires in our community. We will continue to monitor conditions, and if the weather changes and the risk drops enough, we will let people know when and how they can have recreational fires in Campbell River,” Doherty said.
The fire ban doesn’t apply to CSA-rated or ULC-rated cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes. It also doesn’t apply to portable campfires that use briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel.
But under extreme fire conditions, they may be banned as well.
Other banned burning activities include burn barrels and cages, fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns and binary exploding targets.
