An acclaimed Vancouver-based painter will start off North Island College’s art lecture series.
Fiona Ackerman will be the first presenter for the 2019 Artist Talk Series.
Her lecture will be held at the Comox Valley campus next Thursday.
The annual series features local and international artists who share insights and practices with NIC students, local artists and community members.
NIC Fine Arts and Design department chair Sara Vipond says the fall lineup will offer engaging speakers who foster growth among students and artists in the community.
“Fiona Ackerman is the perfect person to lead off this fall series,” Vipond said.
“Her versatility and output as an artist are impressive and we’re very much looking forward to hosting her.”
Ackerman was originally from Montreal. She has had exhibits across Canada, Europe and Asia, including solo and group work. Her most recent projects include a building wrap mural in Vancouver and a 10-minute video projection shown at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
The lecture will be from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Stan Hagen Theatre. Admission is free.
Other guest speakers are scheduled for October 10th, 24th and November 21st. For the full schedule, visit NIC’s Fine Art department calendar.
