The crew of a 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron Cormorant helicopter was called to provide assistance to a hiker who had fallen on Yorke Island, B.C. on Thursday, June 5, 2014.
BC Ambulance requested support from 442 Squadron to evacuate the hiker, who was on a remote and rocky portion of Yorke Island.
The hiker, a woman in her 60’s, fell while exploring a World War II-era complex located on the island.
The helicopter crew arrived on scene and lowered two Search and Rescue Technicians by hoist. The SAR Techs hoisted to the scene approximately 80 feet from the hovering helicopter.
The Search and Rescue Technicians stabilized the patient and treated for possible head and chest injuries,before loading her into a rescue litter.
Once on board the helicopter, the patient was flown to Campbell River airport, where she was transferred to a BC Ambulance for transport to hospital in stable condition.
