North Island College’s Artist Talk Series is set to begin on Jan. 23rd with a special guest in attendance.
Vancouver-based painter Kim Dorland will be sharing his knowledge with NIC students, local artists and community members.
Well-known for using western Canadian landscape in his work, Dorland will be the first of four speakers at the series’ 2020 winter run.
“We’re honoured to have Kim Dorland start the 2020 series,” says Sara Vipond, series coordinator and NIC Fine Arts and Design department chair. “His reputation as one of Canada’s leading painters is well-earned and we’re looking forward to hearing his insights.”
Described by some as the 21st-century answer to Canada’s Group of Seven, NIC says Dorland’s style is “known to push the boundaries of painted representation through an exploration of memory, material, nostalgia, identity and place.”
Dorland has exhibited across the globe, with work seen in Milan, London, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.
Admission is free and all are welcome to hear Dorland speak from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Stan Hagan Theatre at the Comox Valley campus.
