Comox Strathcona Waste Management asking community to limit trips to waste and recycling facilities

Comox Strathcona Waste Management is asking everyone to be conscious of waste during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s reminding you that if you have access to a municipal curbside collection and recycling program, you should do your best to not use nearby landfills.

Rural residents without curbside pickup should limit their trips to yard and essential waste only.

The Comox Valley Waste Management Centre, and other Comox Strathcona Waste Management service facilities will remain open for the time being.

The CSWM is encouraging the community to think about whether a trip to a waste management center is essential or if you could hold off.

The CSWM also says some facilities in the area will have changes in hours and service levels.

The Comox Valley Regional District has closed all free stores to limit the number of residents on-site at one time. Customers are also encouraged to keep two metres away from staff and others when dropping off garbage, recyclables or household hazardous waste.

No cash will be accepted at both the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre and the Campbell River Waste Management Centre. Only two vehicles will have access to the recycling depot at any one time, and opening times may be delayed to allow for time to clean and disinfect equipment.

The Hornby Island transfer station is accepting household waste and Recycle BC materials only
and no cash will be accepted.

The Denman recycling depot and free store are closed. The Cortes Island transfer station is only accepting household garbage at this time. The recycling depot and free store are closed.

The Gold River transfer station is no longer taking cash or debit payments. Customers will be asked to provide their address at the time of disposal and subsequently billed by the Village of Gold River.

For more information about how COVID-19 is affecting waste management in your community, Comox Strathcona Waste Management is asking that you visit your local regional district’s website.
