The city of Courtenay has 2 overhead banner stations.
They’re located on 5th Street, right by Lewis Park and on Highway 19A, just south of Anfield Road.
The banners are used to promote special events like July 1st, Blood Donor Week and a bunch more throughout the year.
A new engineering study shows that high winds might knock down these banners…which could become a danger to the public.

So Courtenay council’s now looking at other ways to promote these events.
Goat News spoke with Mayor Larry Jangula about this.
He says they’re trying to encompass that into one system, but there are some issues.
Council will re-discuss the banner situation before making a final decision on what to do.
