Nothing decided yet, but recent bone dry summer like conditions could lead to severe Stage 3 water restrictions this summer, if BC Hydro decides to pull the plug on their Puntledge River power facility. Goat News spoke with utility spokesperson Stephen Watson.
Watson says the hydro-electric plant could be totally shut down come July.
If BC Hydro suspends operations at their Puntledge River plant, the utility’s water pumping station for the valley would also go down, leading CVRD officials to kick in their backup pumping facility which offers far less capacity than the BC Hydro unit. That would trigger Stage 3 water restrictions, meaning no car washing, lawn sprinkling, hot tub filling and no water for valley swimming pools.
