The Comox Valley Community Foundation is handing out more money to organizations in need to kick off 2021.
In total, $51,170 will be heading towards six local charities through the Emergency Community Support Fund.
The recipients and projects include:
- The Cumberland Community Schools Society for the extension of its Food Share program through Feb 28/2021 ($10,000)
- The Comox Valley Senior Support Society for counselling support for low-income seniors to combat the impact of isolation ( $5,000)
- The Comox Valley Transition Society (Coalition to End Homelessness) Connect Dinner Program – provision of a hot meal each evening at the Connect Centre ($10,000)
- Glacier View Lodge Society to help support safety during visitation – additional screening supplies, barriers, disposable PPE & masks to increase visitation at the facility ($6,201)
- The Hornby Denman Community Health Care Society for transportation for Rural, Remote and Low-Income Seniors – inclusive of taxis, mileage reimbursement for volunteers, and grocery shopping and delivery ($4,800)
- The LUSH Valley Food Action Society for their Hot Meal Delivery Program from January to March 2021 or 600 meals/week ($15,169)
“Since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared, community-based charities and nonprofit organizations have been working tirelessly to provide emergency support, in particular to individuals and communities experiencing heightened vulnerability,” explains President of the Comox Valley Community Foundation, Matt Beckett.
