More support is coming to the Comox Valley’s homeless.
The Comox Valley Regional District, in partnership with Comox, Courtenay and Cumberland, is getting nearly $1.1 million in joint provincial and federal funding.
The money will go towards more shelter beds, meeting increased demand for an existing day program, and providing extended outreach services into more rural regions.
Courtenay-Comox MLA and NDP member Ronna-Rae Leonard says the province is working with the regional district to connect more vulnerable people in the valley to the services they rely on.
The funding is part of the Strengthening Communities Program, which is helping 48 communities across B.C.
The province says $76 million will support local governments to combat the impacts of homelessness, as communities recover from the pandemic.
