More than 75 students in Grades 7 to 12 have taken part in focus group sessions in the past month about the outdoor activities they enjoy and how youth outdoor recreation can be improved in Comox.
Youth aged 12 to 18 in Comox can still take part in a related recreation survey through their school, and a survey for the entire town can be completed on the Town of Comox website until Nov. 5.
Council and Mayor Russ Arnott will review the results in December.
“Appreciative inquiry is core to our group process approach,” said Jan Sandholm, one of the recreation professionals leading the project. “We are asking youth to define the community strengths and outdoor recreation assets. The engagement activities encourage sharing ideas openly with each other and helps to build on what youth love about recreating in Comox. The sessions with the students have been high energy, positive, and motivating.”
Recreation options will be introduced in the town based on some of the community’s ideas.
