BC Hydro has extended the public safety advisory to avoid the Puntledge River until Monday.
BC Hydro has spilled high water flows from the Comox Dam to lower the level of the Comox Lake Reservoir.
The reservoir was at 134.1 m on Monday.
“River flows will continue to be high and dangerous,” said BC Hydro stakeholder engagement advisor Stephen Watson. “It’s been a very wet start this fall with October average inflows into the reservoir about 186 per cent of normal. We will continue to release about 80 to 110 m3/s from the Comox Dam through Monday. The typical Puntledge River flow rate when we are operating at full power generation is about 35 m3/s. River flows will continue to be two to three times above normal. Our temporary safety signage will continue to be updated.”
The Puntledge River powerhouse is expected to be back in service on Nov. 15.
