BC Hydro is once again extending the public safety advisory to stay away from the Puntledge River until Monday as this November has had the second wettest start in 41 years.
Stephen Watson, BC Hydro stakeholder engagement advisor says river flows are high and dangerous.
The water level was at 134.2 m on Monday.
“Water inflows into the reservoir last week peaked at an hourly rate of 318 m3/s on Nov. 4,” said Watson. “Discharges from the Comox Dam over the past week have ranged from about 45 cubic metres per second (m3/s) to about 175 m3/s as we moved flows down for the high tide and then increased as the tide moved out.”
BC Hydro has been communicating with emergency response leaders in the Comox Valley about the storms over the past month.
Puntledge River safety signs will be removed if the storm activity eases up this week and the river flows can move down to more normal flow levels.
