Thousands of people are without power after “old man winter” dumped snow onto the Comox Valley and Denman Island.
The Comox Valley has 9,870 people without power, stretching from Royston to just south of the Oyster River, according to BC Hydro’s Outage Map.
The outage in Royston has been caused because of a tree downing a power line and the others are still under investigation, according to Hydro. Crews estimate the power will be back on at 9:40 a.m.
BC Hydro says to check their outage map for updates.
Around 240 people are without power on Denman Island as well. BC Hydro says this outage was also caused by a downed power line.
A special weather statement along with a snowfall warning and arctic outflow warning is in place for the Valley this weekend, with snow at times heavy and temperatures dropping to lows of minus 12.
