Stage one water restrictions are now in effect for Village of Cumberland residents, affecting how lawns can be watered.
The restrictions came into effect on Sunday with stages two and three engaged depending on the water situation, which varies year to year, according to the village.
The first stage is in effect from the start of May until Sept. 30 and affects how green your lawn may appear. The village says watering with a sprinkler is allowed two days per week.
Odd-numbered addresses can water their lawns on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. or between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The same times are allowed for even-numbered addresses but on Thursdays and Sundays.
During stage one, plants, trees and shrubs can also be watered by sprinkler during those hours, or by hand at any point during the day, according to the village.
Washing a car is still allowed with a handheld container or a hose with a shut-off nozzle, or at car dealerships and commercial car washes.
More information can be found on the Village of Cumberland website.
