CAMPBELL RIVER – A damaged natural gas main has closed Old Island Highway South in Campbell River.
UPDATE 2:39 pm: RCMP say that the Old Island Highway should be open again in about 10 minutes.
ORIGINAL POST 2:00 pm: RCMP has confirmed that the closure is on the highway between Rockland Road and 1st Ave. in both directions. Police say they may be expanding the area dependent on an investigation by FortisBC.
FortisBC’s Corporate Communications Specialist, Lauren Lea says it was third-party damage to a natural gas main. At this point, she had no timeline on how long the closure would be in place.
Lea says, “Right now they are investigating and assessing the damage to the system and the fire department is on-site as well.”
This article will be updated with further updates, which are expected from FortisBC.
