The community in Courtenay can now review a draft of the Aquatic Centres located across the Comox Valley.
The draft is for the Comox Valley Aquatics Strategy, which focuses on recommendations to invest in increasing the quality, efficiency, and sustainability of existing aquatic facilities for the next 25 years.
The facilities include the CVRD Sports Centre Pool, the Courtenay and District Memorial Outdoor Pool, and the CVRD Aquatics Centre, with the strategy commissioned by the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and the City of Courtenay.
Melanie McCollum, Chair of the Comox Valley Recreation Commission and Councillor for the City of Courtenay says they know how important these facilities are to the community.
“We know from the response to the engagement process last year how strongly residents and community groups in the Comox Valley value their access to aquatic services,” said McCollum.
“These facilities and programs contribute to our quality of life, whether it’s for recreation, skill development, fitness, physical therapy, or social connection. We look forward to hearing what our community has to say about the draft strategy.”
According to the City, the key recommendations include supporting equitable access to facilities and services for all residents, increasing the capacity in water sports and activities, effective and efficient use of resources, and aligning facilities with changing trends to provide better service.
The draft is available for the public to review, with the deadline to provide feedback being March 6th of this year.
