A portion of a local bike trail in Cumberland will be permanently closed, due to safety concerns.
The decision came due to the Short n’Curly’s northwest bridge containing a significant amount of rot.
The Village adds that the bridge was structurally unstable, had a difficult alignment, and the area would get slick for cyclists whenever there’s wet weather.
While alternative bridge locations were pursued by the Village, they were not able to find a solution that would have been both cost-effective and respectful of environmental practices, resulting in the closure.
With the northern portion closed, the crossing and trail section on the southeast portion of the trail will still be open to the public, with that portion still receiving maintenance services.
