The city of Courtenay says they are looking for public input as they plan upgrades for a section of Cousins Avenue between Willemar Avenue and 20th Street.
Improvements will include road upgrades, repaving and replacement of underground services that are at the end of their lives or need to be upscaled to support the growing community. The city adds that it is a chance to study current traffic flow, parking challenges and to look at road and pedestrian improvements.
Three options have been created for the project, and they city says they are looking for feedback on designs for above ground improvements.
“The city understands that the unique nature of the Cousins Avenue area, with a mix of light industrial, single-family residential and mixed-use buildings, creates challenges such as traffic flow and parking limitations,” said engineering and capital projects manager Adam Pitcher.
“We’re considering all of these various needs, feedback from the community will also be essential in determining upgrades that reflect the area and all those who live, work and travel in it.”
A drop-in open house will be held on Oct. 18 at the Florence Filberg Centre’s Rotary Hall from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to share information and get feedback and staff will be there to answer any questions.
They add the feedback will give the project team more relevant information to create the best plan heading forward. An online survey will also be available starting Oct. 18.
Once an option has been selected, detailed designs will be made next year and construction will begin in 2025. More information can be found here.
