Environment Canada says a shift in the weather pattern this weekend won’t be enough to end the drought… but it could be a good thing for fire crews and those suffering from smoke in the air.
Meteorologist Lisa Caldwells says today is going to be a “transition” day… as the high pressure ridge that’s been stalled over BC for more than two months, moves East.
Caldwells says the wind coming with the system will also drive the smoke from the interior, that’s been combining with smoke from local fires, out of the region. However, with fires still burning air quality will still be worse than normal.
As for the forecasted rainfall amounts?
Meanwhile the 16 hectare Port Hardy area fire is now 75 percent contained, although an Evacuation Alert remains in force. Coastal Fire Centre crews have been aggressively attacking the blaze in recent days.
