Oceanside Pride holds rally to support inclusion and diversity

Oceanside Pride says they were thrilled with the 200 people who showed their support for inclusion, human rights and diversity for the 2SLGBTQ+ community over the weekend.

According to the organization, there were no incidents in the rally, but a group of only 20 individuals did try and disrupt the proceedings by hurling negative rhetoric.

“Some of the anti-SOGI protestors were telling us we weren’t welcome in the community,” the organization said in a media release. “We just waved our joy and rainbows in response.

“Our message has been unequivocally conveyed; our community stands for inclusion.”

The organization says ant-SOGI protests across Canada were small and they are not allowing negativity to deter them from spreading their message.

“Today, we proudly declare a resounding victory for our community and country, demonstrating we are inclusive, diverse and lead with love,” they said. “This will never change.”

SOGI protests were held in Nanaimo earlier this month in front of city hall where both sides attended with three violent incidents broke out resulting in one arrest.
