So far no major forest fire activity in our neck of the woods, as smoking hot temperatures persist on the North Island and Sunshine Coast. Coastal Fire Centre spokesperson Donna MacPherson says their crews have just doused a fire in the Gold River area, after a blaze broke out in the local landfill and quickly spread to adjacent forest lands.
MacPherson says human caused fires continue to be a major issue for provincial fire officials.
So how is this forest fire season shaping up as compared to recent years?
MacPherson says several Coastal Fire Centre aircraft are still stationed in Campbell River today just in case any major fires break out in our region. The fire danger rating is pegged at high.
