The Comox Valley Regional District says they are implementing new procedures to ensure the Sports and Aquatic centres are accessible, safe and family friendly.
According to the announcement Monday, the district has experienced “increased issues during public events” at the centres recently.
The district adds the following may cause refusal for entry:
- Impairment related to alcohol or drug consumption
- Possession of alcohol, drugs or items deemed to be weapons
- Abusive behaviour or language
Comox Valley Recreation Commission chair Melanie McCollum says they are asking for everyone’s respect and patience as they implement the procedures.
“Recently, we have experienced increased issues during public events at the Sports and Aquatic centres and need residents to recognize our commitment to ensure that we are providing a safe, accessible place for everyone to enjoy,” said McCollum.
The district adds liquor cannot be consumed in the facilities, parking lots or surrounding areas, smoking cigarettes, cannabis or vaping is also not permitted.
Animals are also not allowed inside the facilities except for guide, sign and signal dogs.
“Abuse, harassment or discrimination will not be tolerated,” added the district.
“Patrons will be escorted out of the facility if there is any fighting, threatening remarks or gestures, or obscene language to others.”
