The Comox Valley Regional District Board is using the remaining $1.617 million in its Growing Communities Fund for two infrastructure and amenities projects.
According to the district, the funding is being split in half for the two projects. A new artificial turf field project will get $808,500 and so will the sewer extension south project.
CVRD Board chair Will Cole-Hamilton says the two projects are key pieces to the growth and sustainability of the area.
“While there are a number of projects ongoing throughout the community that deserve financial attention, this funding follows the board’s key strategic drivers and priorities while meeting the acceptance requirements of the grant,” said Cole-Hamilton.
In addition to the funds for the two projects, seven other projects had funding approved in May:
- Denman Island Fire Hall Replacement Project (2025) $850,000
- Mount Washington Fire Hall Project (2023) $600,000
- Union Bay Fire Hall Replacement Project (2024) $1,195,000
- Denman Island Cross Trail (2024) $25,000
- Goose Spit Trail (2024) $90,000
- Seal Bay Nature Park (2025/2026) $120,000
This means a total of $4,497,000 has been allocated.
