Comox automated curbside collection starts Tuesday

The Town of Comox is encouraging you to get familiar with the new automated curbside collection system ahead of its first collection day next week.

The first collection day for the new system will be on Tuesday. The town says you can get familiar by looking at the information guide included with the delivered carts or online.

They add the municipalities have partnered on a brief introduction video highlighting proper cart usage and placement on the City of Courtenay’s YouTube channel.

If you have old waste collection containers, you will be able to drop them off for free at the west parking lot of Comox Marina Park near the boat launch from Jan. 6 to 13.

“Many people can benefit from using the containers to keep them out of the region’s landfill,” said the town.

“There are numerous creative and environmentally friendly ways to reuse them, such as do-it-yourself planters, rain barrels and storage of recycling depot items, mulch or other landscaping items.”

Acceptable materials include garbage cans, large recycling cans, blue boxes and organics containers.
