A Denman Island resident and fisher is celebrating one of his biggest catches, worth $500,000 from a lotto win.
David Elliott says he “was in disbelief” when he learned he won outside the Courtenay Walmart.
“I didn’t know how much I won until I phoned in,” said Elliott. “I thought the lady at the lotto kiosk made a mistake.”
Elliott adds his girlfriend was “shaking” when he shared the news.

Elliot says he plans to celebrate over a nice steak dinner and intends to go fishing as soon as he can.
“Honestly, I just want to buy more bait and go fishing. It’s my thing,” he added.
