The BC Conservative candidate for Courtenay-Comox says he is running because he believes in the province’s natural resource industries and making life more affordable.
Damon Scrase says he was born into the high-stakes industry in BC which has struggled through several natural disasters.
He says the main reason he is looking to run in the 2024 provincial election is to help make life more affordable and reasonable for everyone across the province.
Scrase says there is no good reason for squeezing British Columbians to the breaking point where they’re living on the streets, dealing with substance abuse, and living paycheque to paycheque; and that is one thing he wants to help eliminate when it comes time for the election to be called.
“We need to build housing, countless people that have grown up in the Comox Valley can’t afford to retire or raise a family,” he says. “This is terrible and was something taken for granted for most of Canadian history.
“If you work hard, you should be able to raise a family, and that has been taken away for many Canadians.”
He adds that while fixing the housing crisis is his paramount priority, finding a solution to drug addiction is one of the other priority list agenda items he plans to address.
“What used to be a big city problem has been exported to small communities across the island,” Scrase says. “We have been against decriminalization and safe supply, simply because there is no such thing as safe fentanyl, crack and cocaine.”
According to the Angus Reid Institute, polling for the 2024 provincial election shows the BC Conservatives gaining support while they echo the platform of the Conservative Party of Canada.
