The wild animal hospital and rescue centre north of Courtenay is looking for volunteers this season.
The Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society recently learned grant funding for summer jobs did not come through this year. That means they don’t have enough staff for their busiest time of the year, May to October.
They are now appealing to the public for short-term volunteers to help care for rescued animals, and do some housekeeping. They are considering all applicants, even people who have just a few hours per month to spare.
The society’s animal hospital and rehabilitation facility in Merville has helped release hundreds of animals back to the wild, nearly 1,000 just last year.
