After a decade of serving on Cumberland council, Jesse Ketler will be stepping down.
This comes from the Village, saying that Ketler will resign on June 30, ending a ten-year run that started in November 2014.
During her time as councilor, Cumberland saw the adoption of the official community plan, improvements to their water supply and treatment systems, fund contributions for hosting the regional landfill, and a strategy to diversify their tax base.
Ketler says it’s been an honour to work with mayor and council.
“Over the past decade, we have achieved remarkable milestones and navigated through significant changes, always striving to make Cumberland a better place for our residents,” said Ketler.
“Balancing the demands of council duties with my current personal responsibilities has become increasingly challenging, and I believe stepping down is the best course of action for both myself and the community we serve.”
The village says along with her work as councillor, she also served as board chair of the Comox Valley Regional District from 2018 to 2023.
Mayor Vickey Brown says she is grateful to Ketler for her work in the Village and the Valley.
“Jesse was always a passionate advocate for affordable housing and for quality services to the community,” said Brown.
“I think I can speak on behalf of all of Council and the community when I thank Jesse for her dedication to the Village.”
According to the B.C. local government act, a by-election needs to be held to fill up a spot after resignation.
The by-election is expected to happen in September.
