A Nanaimo man has been charged for drug trafficking and illegal firearms, after border services intercepted silencers at the Vancouver Airport.
The Canada Border Services Agency launched an investigation after seizing three firearms suppressors, also known as silencers, at the airport between August and October 2022. Suppressors are prohibited in Canada.
On May 30 last year, Border Services and RCMP raided a residence and two vehicles in Nanaimo, and seized prohibited and other firearms, ammunition, and a variety of illegal drugs.
Among the weapons seized were two loaded 9mm “ghost guns” and a loaded prohibited shotgun. Cocaine, MDMA, meth and magic mushrooms were also seized. “Ghost guns” are firearms that are not marked with a serial number and are difficult for law enforcement to trace.
Last month Cody Edward Ranger was charged with drug trafficking and several firearms offences. He is currently in custody and proceedings continue.
