The BC Government is helping people upgrade schooling to chase future jobs.
The province announced $3.5 million will be invested into the Adult Basic Education (ABL) and English Language Leaning (ELL) pathways program for the 2024-25 school year, which were launched in 2022.
The funding will support 22 pathways at 12 public post-secondary institutions and the Native Education College, including North Island College (NIC) and Vancouver Island University (VIU).
Vice-president of students and community engagement at NIC Kathleen Kuhnert said the funding has a large impact on the North Island community.
“The funding for AME/ELL pathways has been essential for supporting our communities in the northern region of Vancouver Island and more than 450 students have benefited from the Access Navigator initiative at NIC.”
The programs set students up to achieve jobs in high-demand careers by supporting the transition from post-secondary to skills training.
Institutions help integrate people into post-secondary life, provide offering to students target careers, and provide career guidance and support.
VIU is set to receive $400,000 in funding, while NIC will receive $200,000.
